M. Scott Mahaskey, Director of Photography at POLITICO, has almost 20 years of experience as a photojournalist and editor. Prior to this position, he was the Managing Editor/ Visual, Interactive and Copy Editing at Gannett Government Media (formerly Army Times). As a photojournalist, Mahaskey spent more than twelve months as an embedded journalist in Iraq and Afghanistan. His images have been used widely throughout the Gannett network, in addition to People magazine, Reader's Digest, Sports Illustrated, CNN, NBC Nightly News and ABC Nightline. His video work has been used by CBS Evening News, 60 Minutes, Discovery Channel and others. Before moving to the DC-area in 2003, he was a photojournalist for The Daily Herald in Arlington Heights, Illinois and The Ottumwa Courier in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Mahaskey has received numerous awards for his photojournalism work and holds a Master of Fine Arts in Studio from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
